Welcome to the Incident Response Center web page. This page was created to help answer questions you may have regarding the stolen laptop incident that occurred in late December, 2005. As part of our commitment to communicate to affected clients and advisors on the laptop incident, we are posting this update on a development in the case.
As we reported last month, the laptop was recovered by local law enforcement authorities in the community where it was stolen. The laptop was recovered in an unrelated criminal investigation, and remained in police custody as evidence in that investigation.
The police released the computer to Ameriprise Financial, and our corporate office hired a third party firm specializing in computer forensics to determine whether or not client data on the computer was compromised in any way.
After extensive computer forensic analysis, we are pleased to report that there were no signs that the Ameriprise Financial data was accessed after the laptop was stolen.
I believe you will find this good news, as it means that your personal information has not been, nor will be, used for inappropriate means as a result of this computer theft.
Since the theft has occurred, we have not received any reports of unusual or unauthorized account activity as a result of the incident.
Ameriprise Financial takes our responsibility to safeguard your personal information seriously. We are committed to protecting that information now and in the future.
