According to the Financial Planning Association® (FPA®), a comprehensive, written financial plan is one that you develop with a paid, professional advisor and includes 3 or more of the following components:

Insurance planning (life, disability, long-term care, etc.)
Estate planning
Tax planning
Managing or reducing debt
