Working with my advisor

Electronic signature (eSign)

Frequently asked questions

What is electronic signature?

Electronic signature, eSignature, or eSign, is a safe, secure and efficient way for account owners to electronically sign documents, such as new account applications, without needing to print the form, sign it and send it in for processing.

How will I know when a new document is ready for me to eSign?

An email alert will be sent to account owners, and an alert will be published in the secure site on ameriprise.com.

How long will documents be available for me to eSign?
  • Annuities – Documents will be available to sign for up to 10 calendar days.
  • Bank Savings Application – Documents will be available to sign for up to 30 calendar days.
  • All Others – Documents will be available to sign for 60 days after account setup.

An email notification will list the date by which a signature is required.

Will I get a paper copy of the document I electronically signed?

An electronically signed document will not be mailed. Once electronically signed, the document will be available online for 60 days. Save and/or print the document prior to the 60 day expiration for future use. Contact your financial advisor for documents electronically signed more than 60 days ago.

How can I get a copy of a document I signed electronically that is no longer available online?

Contact your financial advisor for copies of documents signed more than 60 days ago.

How can I ensure I will receive email alerts for documents that need my eSign?

For detailed information on email alerts, see steps to help ensure you receive emails from Ameriprise Financial.

Can I provide my consent to use eSign all the time?

Consent is required every time a document is available for eSign.

I would like to use eSign, but my co-account holder does not want to. Can I still use eSign?
