What is electronic signature?

Electronic signature, or eSignature, is a safe, secure and efficient way for account owners to electronically sign documents, such as new account applications, without needing to print the form, sign it and send it in for processing.

How will I know when a new document is awaiting my eSignature?

You will receive an email alert, and you will also see an alert in the secure site on ameriprise.com.

How long will documents be available for me to eSign?
  • Annuities – Documents will be available for you to sign for up to 10 calendar days. You will receive email notifications alerting you of the date by which your signature is required.
  • All Others – Documents will be available for you to sign for 60 days after account setup. You will receive email notifications alerting you of the date by which your signature is required.
Will I get a paper copy of the documents I electronically signed online?

No. The document will be available online for 60 days once signed. You may save and/or print the document prior to the 60 day expiration for future use. Please contact your advisor for documents you electronically signed more than 60 days ago.

How can I ensure I will receive email alerts for documents that need my eSignature?
Can I provide my consent to use eSignature all the time?

No, you will need to provide your consent each time you choose to electronically sign a document.

I would like to use eSignature, but my co-account holder does not want to. Can I still use eSignature?

No. At this time all account holders must either consent to eSignature or all must physically sign a paper document.

How do I print or save the documents that I sign electronically?

First, open the item. Then, use the functionality in Adobe Acrobat Reader to "Save" and "Print." If you use Windows Vista, you may need to right-click on your browser icon/shortcut and select "Run as administrator" and then pull up the item you wish to save or print.

How can I get a copy of a document I signed electronically that is no longer available online?

Please contact your advisor for copies of documents you signed more than 60 days ago which are no longer available online.

Do I need any special software to use eSignature?

The only software you'll need is Adobe Acrobat Reader (7.0 or higher), which is available on the Internet as a free download.

I'm having trouble viewing my online documents. I click the link and nothing happens.

Online documents are created as PDF files; you'll need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader (7.0 or higher) on your computer and use Microsoft Internet Explorer v6.0 or higher.
